A Verbis Legis non est Recedendum

Menurut Black Law Dictionary Fourth Edition, a verbis legis non est recedendum memiliki arti "the words of a statute must not be departed from", yang kemudian memiliki penjelasan tambahan yang berbunyi "a court is not at liberty to disregard the letter of the statute, in favor of a supposed intention."
