Sometimes lessons of life come unexpectedly; randomly strikes you: in the corner of the usual street you used to pass by, or even just by looking up the sky and watch the clouds above. In my case, I found it in an Australian steakhouse, in the faces and talks of Dad and his friends. So it was a cloudy evening when I sat down on a chair between Dad's and Uncle Kurnia's, just coming from Gramedia after buying something for my dear sister. My Dad and his friends were in the middle of a discussion. Dad said it was a meeting but it was more like a discussion: warm, relax, and cozy. For minutes I just sat there, paying attention to each and every word they were saying about business, politics, psychology, and any other stuff. I was feeling lucky I got a chance to join them, because I was kind of into political stuff and economical problems, you name it. It is kind of weird though – referring to my age -- but I like what I'm interested in. Being different isn't always wrong, is it? But then my Dad's friends, Uncle Lilo and Aunt Yuni told us about something. And I found the topic is so interesting that I just can't take my mind out of the topic. It's about connecting dots. Some people (like my Dad's friends) believe that there's no coincidence when you met someone for the first time and you're instantly feel somehow connected deeply with them. There must be, there has to be something beyond, something more than just a coincidence. They believe that there are dots which connect them to the persons they feel comfy with even to those who they haven't met before. The dots could be anything; it might be a person you both know well, or it might just be your uncle is their dad's bestfriend, etcetera. The dots are simply anything that relates you and that person in both of your lives. Still don't get it? Here's just a simple example. You met A for the first time and suddenly feel really connected with him. And it turns out to be, A is your bestfriend's highschool buddy. So the dot that connects both of you is your bestfriend. I found that concept is interesting. I've been believing that there's no coincidence in life, and it was proven by this concept. I simply love it. It may be kind of awkward for people around my age that I'm comfy being stuck in a same table for hours just listening to my Dad and his friends blab about everything, but you know what? I learned a lot from them. That's why I love hanging out with Dad's friends. They opened my eyes to things I've never realized before. They taught me to not to see things one-sided only. And I'm freakin' proud when they said,"Your Dad is a great man. You're lucky you have him as your Dad." I'm indeed, very lucky.
