"Flexing" is a slang term that refers to the behavior of someone who shows off or shows the wealth or luxury they have on social media. This is done to gain validity/recognition from others. Nowadays, we see many children or adults who do "flexing". This is because the increasingly advanced era will cause a social class (gap), where rich people can get their favorite items easily and poor people can only see it. The existence of this social class is what causes insecurity and prestige to arise. People will perform flexing actions when they feel that their existence is less appreciated or less important by others. In addition, they must also feel depressed and try to seek the attention of others by "flexing".
"Flexing is often referred to as pretending to be rich and showing off their wealth. Most people think that flexing is only done by poor people who want to pretend to be rich, even though many rich people also flex on their social media just to show off their wealth. "Flexing" does not help poverty in Indonesia decrease but rather increase. People are competing to show off their wealth without knowing how hard it is to earn money to overcome the poverty that occurs.
In my opinion, flexing will only make things harder for us, because we will often feel dissatisfied with ourselves and what we have achieved so far. In addition, the existence of prestige and insecurity will also only make us feel depressed and mentally disturbed. Therefore, we must eliminate the habit of "flexing" in our lives by trying to think critically, be smarter in social media, and stop looking for validity and recognition from others about ourselves.
