These rooftop solar installations are designed to be part of the primary production infrastructure, with an anticipated total power yield of 682 kWP. The move is expected to substantially slash the company's annual CO2 emissions by an estimated 532,812 kilograms.
"In addition to the ecological advantages, this energy shift is projected to reduce our reliance on the national grid by as much as 15%. Our long-term vision includes progressively expanding the use of solar energy across more facilities," said the corporate management in an official announcement dated October 5, 2023.
This solar initiative is a key component of WIKA Beton's wider strategy to decarbonize its operations, in harmony with the Indonesian Ministry of Industry's push for greener industrial practices. The strategy encompasses a range of measures, from lowering CO2 output from various energy sources to transitioning away from fossil fuel-based systems in favor of low-carbon alternatives.
As part of its ongoing commitment to sustainability, WIKA Beton has already rolled out several eco-conscious programs. For instance, solar cells have been employed for lighting throughout the factory premises and storage areas since last year. Additionally, the company has been proactive in wastewater recycling and incorporating fly ash waste into its concrete mix to cut down on cement consumption.
With a focus on long-term sustainability, WIKA Beton is committed to evolving and delivering enduring value, not only to its immediate stakeholders but also with an eye toward future generations.
