Uncertain Nation

A few week ago, we had  a speech contest for celebrating the anniversary of west Lombok regency. It was held in Narmada  Park, 5 kilometers from mataram town, the capital of West Nusatenggara Province. I came with two of my best students to take a part on this contest. Actually, we made a little preparation for this contest for Dinas Pendidikan informed us about this activity only two days before the contest. Luckily I always prepare them to  have any contest, such as story telling, speech, and  debate in our English Speaking Club. So I  took them along to take a part in this contest. They are Yana and Sarimun. Both Yana and Sarimun are student of year eight. the like English very much. They make a very good progress at English. They live in a overseas foundation near by our school, it is yayasan syafaat. Yayasan syafaat was founded by the dutch who love to help the children in Lombok, especially those who have no mother/ father or  parents. There are some volunteers from holland who teach them regularly there. So they can practice their English more often than the other students. As we arrived in Narmada, the summer palace built by the king of karangasem in the 18 century. It is a replica of Rinjani Mountain. well, the balinesse  practice a Pujawali annually. this ceremony is aimed to worship the gods in rinjani mountain. They climb the 3726 meters above sea level along with all their offerings. All kind of animals are brought up the mount as well as gold and silver. All of them are thrown to the crater lake, Segara Anak. As the king  was too old to climb the mount so he built it to make the worship there. Narmada is also well known for its spring water. It flows abundantly all year long. It is believed can keep your face shine brightly if you wash your face using its water. by the way,  I promote this park because it is a must in Lombok. Back to the contest, when we arrived there our Kepala Dinas was talking on the stage. He talked about the good education and all about the progress he has been making so far. One statement made me happy was, " I want the committee provide all the participant lunch, if this contest will end in the afternoon, you may not let them hungry and their teachers must buy them lunch>" . I liked this statement, coz I didn't have to buy them lunch. You know, our school gave me a little budget, not enough for lunch, or I had to use my own money. I didn't mind, but it shouldn't be. One by one the contestant made speech on the stage. some of them could make a good speech but some just reading the text made by their teachers. I think those who read the text won't get any point coz it was speech contest not reading contest. Yana, finally, got her turn. She made a very good speech  since she didn't take along her text but she could memorize it. The speech was made by herself in Bahasa Indonesia and I helped her to translate. Sarimun also made his speech quite good but he seemed little bit nervous. He has to learn alot. When the time went by and passed the time for lunch. WE didn't see any sign that the committee would give us lunch. At last we found out there won't be any lunch coz they didn't have enough budget for this. We got confuse of this, but I used to face this situation, uncertanty .  It is the uncertain nation. You have to know man!!!!!. It is only a small example, meanwhile there are a lot of other examples. This country is full of uncertainty. We never know when the electricity will black out and for how long. we never know when we get our allowance from government as profesional teacher. It has been 5 months unpaid. Luckily we still can breath till this moment and I could write happily in kompasiana. Bravo Kompasiana
