Postmodern theory or postmodernism is an intellectual movement that was born on response to several themes put forward by modernists which were first articulated durung the Enlightenment. The era of postmodernism itself ia only limited to the end of the 20th Century. Some experts sometimes mention that the postmodernism era began after world war II ended because of the existensial dissapointment due to the holacaust.
Theorists agree that there are two notions of postmodernism namely, first postmodernism as a reaction to the aestetics of modernism in the first half of the 20th Century in architecture, art, and literature. And second, postmodernism as a reaction to the tradition of modernity that has lasted a long time during the middle Ages. The second meaning often referred to as postmodernity because it refers to the many historical and social aspects of postmodernism.
The second meaning is also related to poststructuralism which satirized the rejection of the bourgeois and elitist Enlightenment culture. Whithout this defference, postmodernism may not have a central hierarcy or clear organizing principles, which embody complexity, contradiction, ambiguity, diversity, and extreme relations.
