Abstract
Generation Z, which consists of individuals born between 1997 and 2012, is a group that has grown up in a rapidly evolving digital age. As digital natives, they have access to rapid and extensive information, which allows them to be actively involved in various social and political issues. Their high social awareness and propensity to support change brings great potential for them to influence political dynamics in Indonesia. However, despite this significant potential, Generation Z's political participation in formal politics in Indonesia still faces various challenges. One of them is distrust of political institutions that are perceived as not representing their interests. In addition, Generation Z is also easily influenced by fake news and inaccurate information widely circulated on social media, which can cloud their political views. This article aims to explore the potential that generation Z has in strengthening Indonesia's democracy as well as the challenges they face in participating in formal politics. In addition, this article will also discuss steps that can be taken to increase Generation Z's involvement in the political process, whether through media literacy education, providing spaces for participation, or establishing a more representative and inclusive young leadership.
