Sherlock Holmes 2, A Game of Shadow
People who are waiting to watch the sequel of Sherlock Holmes 2, a Game of Shadow (directed by Guy Ritchie), now could come to the nearest movie to show the acting of Robert Downey Jr. This film has been launched at 16th Dec in the UK, USA and Canada after its first sequel on 2009. While for other countries, it is going to be on the movie at 25th Dec. This seems as a Christmas gift from the PH Warner Bros.
I was going to the AMC Theatre in Five Ways, Birmingham at 11 am on 16th of Dec with my friends. We had planned to watch the movie few weeks before the due date. I was waiting forward to showing the action of my favorite actor, Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law. No matter it was cold due to rain and snow, we came through. It was very exciting, fun and splendid!
The movie itself based on the novel wrote by Sir Arthur Conan. It tells the story about character of Sherlock Holmes (played by Robert Downey), an English detective in the early 19 centuries. Like another detective movie, the scene setting centralized on investigating a series of crimes that happen in adjacent time. Holmes is trying to solve a series of crimes held in the Europe. These crimes are seemingly unrelated one another. However, he believe that all crimes linked each other, and they are connected to Oxford Professor, James Moriarty (Jared Harris), a smart criminal mastermind. After committing some assassinations, Moriarty poisons Irene Adler (Rachel Mc Adam) who helped his action but unfortunately failed to pass the message because Holmes grab it soon after she got from an old man. Meanwhile, Holmes asks Dr. John Watson (Jude Law), who is going to get married in the day after, to come to his brother party. Holmes actually want to save another victim of Moriarty, a fortune telling Sim (Naomi Rapace), who is supposed to be the next victim because her brother was a martyr of the Moriarty crime. Knowing that Holmes want to investigate him, Moriarty gives a warning not to continue. If he is still persistent, the next target will be Watson.
On one day, on the honeymoon destination, Dr. Watson and his new wife, Mary (Kelly Relly) subjected to be murdered by Moriarty man. They are travelling to Brighton by train. To save Mary, Holmes knocks her off the train and was saved by Holmes’s brother. While Holmes and Watson continue their journey to Paris to find out evidences of Moriarty's crime.
In Paris, the game continued. Holmes, Watson and Sim go to an opera, and again, another bomb exploded near them. Holmes investigates from the bodies and realize that the gun used is same with the one that was used in the previous crime. It was from the Germany factory that Moriarty bought before. Holmes continues his investigation to the gun factory but unfortunately he is captured. Meanwhile, Watson could rescue him and cure his wound. Afterward, they come into a summit and see there are a lot of people with the similar faces. This was an experiment of Moriarty to disguise his crime. In this summit, Holmes and Moriarty fight in the balcony over a waterfall and both felt down to the waterfall.
Sometime later, Watson write the story based on his experience with Holmes. In the last part he wrote ‘the end’ and, suddenly when he left for a while to see who is sending a oxygen mycroft, Holmes came from the sofa where he hide and put ‘?’ mark in the end.
This movie is fantastic. I enjoyed the visual effects that are used in the whole scene. It has presented an era in eighteen centuries through the castle, colour, and the environment. Almost all characters tell the flow with the appropriate time and setting. For instance, the  I like the way it finished, very fun. The serious story is finished by a question mark.  However, I am little bit destructed with the character of Sim. For her first appearance with a sharp nail, she seems a taft and dominant women. Yet, later on, it becomes her side character. It was confusion. Another thing that make me inconvenience is the slow motion for many scenes, especially on fighting. It takes a long time, more than 20 second, and makes me exhausted to wait what’s next on. Because in my mind, a fighting scene need to be agile and vigorous.
However, all in all, this movie has given an enjoyable show for this winter holiday…
