Tuberculosis (TB) is an endemic disease endemic of tropical regions. The disease is caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the bacilli bacteria that resist of acid. In 1993, WHO declared that tuberculosis is reemerging disease. In 2006, there were approximately 9.2 million new cases of TB globally. Around 1.7 million people died from TB. According to WHO in 2006, Indonesia was ranked the 3rd largest contributor of TB cases.
It’s TBday, so today the participants of 10th ITMSS will study about it. At 09.00 am, lecture about tuberculosis begins. The lecturer today is dr. YusrizalDjam'anSaleh, Sp. P. He is a pulmonary specialist and also one of the lecturer of Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta. The lecture was held for 2 hours.
After the lecture, participants walked to the laboratory skills. In this session, participants learn about the examination that must be performed when they found TB cases. Together with 5 instructor from Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta, participants learn about history taking, physical examination, and additional examinations. The additional examinations are X-ray examination and how to interpret the result of microbiology test from TB patients’s sputum.
The last agenda on the 2nd day is tutorial. Tutorial is a discussion about a case of disease. Of course, the case today is about tuberculosis. Participants were divided into 2 groups tutorial. Each group is guided by a tutor from Muhammadiyah University of Yogyakarta. The tutor is dr. Ardiansyah, Sp. S and dr. OryzatiHilman, Msc.CMFM, PhD.
