The Thoughts of Hassan Hanafi and Muhammad Abid Al-Jabiri

A. Hassan Hanafi is a leading Islamic legal thinker and professor of philosophy in Egypt. As in his book which has been published by the Occidental Occadians; Our Attitude Towards Western Traditions which in its original title Muqadimah Fi Ilm Al Istighrab. In the work he invited his readers to wage jihad against the west, precisely to do theology for the sake of liberation. When viewed from the theoretical-philosophical interpreter, the character of Hasan Hanafi's left revolutionary thought. As someone who has a strong sense of reality, Hasan Hanafi has a very empirical or down to earth view. As a reformer Muslim he was a cultural bearer who was critical of Islam and a thinker of Islamic civilization. Cultural strategies as a conscious effort by humans to transcend difficulties, obstacles, and even contemporary and contemporary issues.

B. Muhammad Abid Al-Jabiri was born in Figuig, south of Morocco, on December 27, 1935. He completed his education at the Madrasah Hooray Wathaniyah, a private religious school that provided the empowerment movement. He completed his secondary education from 1951-1953 in Casablanca and received an Arabic Middle School Diploma after Morocco gained independence. He never made it through philosophy education at Damascus University, Syria. And instead al-Jabiri called for the development of Arabic epistemology with three epistemologies namely Epistemology; Burhani, Bayani, and 'Irfani.

1. Bayani Epistemology

Namely the mindset that comes from texts, ijma', ijtihad and Arabic language science.

2. Burhani Epistemology

What is agreed here is what measures whether or not something is based on human capabilities consisting of human beings and reason with those released from the revelation text that protects the sacred.

3. Epistemology 'Irfani

Namely by including Sufism, discussing Shi'a, esoteric interpretation of the Qur'an, and translating the philosophy of illumination.
