Ethics is such an important element, because as of right now, a lot of startups still prioritize business over ethics, and ethics is perceived as an extra layer of complexity as opposed to an integral issue (Hernandez, 2022). Moreover, startups often face resource limitations that may hinder them from prioritizing ethical frameworks (Floridi, 2019).
Conclusion & recommendations
After presenting the essay findings and argumentations, several conclusions and recommendations have been proposed, which are as follows:
- The rise of AI-driven startups has been globally prevalent in recent years. The exponential rise of these tech startups contributes to innovations and economic growth
- Ethical concerns in AI-driven startups are often overlooked due to decisions that prioritize business matters as opposed to ethical matters. The lack of incentives may also be caused due to the resource limitations the startups may face.
- There are two major problems discussed in the essay regarding ethical issues. 1.) Security and privacy issues and 2.) Incorrect decision-making issue that is especially prevalent in telemedicine startups.
In response to these findings, AI-driven startups should recognize that ethical matters are as equally important as their business matters. The negative implications that can occur if these issues (e.g. privacy, and algorithmic decisions) are overlooked need to be prioritized more in startup environments. Moreover, the government should impose stricter regulations on these matters so that tighter, and safer policies can be made to make AI-driven startups better for everyone.
