Education in general means a process of learning the knowledge, skills, and habits of a group of people that are passed down from one generation to the next through teaching, training, and research. Meanwhile, according to the Big Indonesian Dictionary (KBBI), education is the process of changing the attitudes and behaviors of a person or group into those of mature humans through teaching and training.
Equitable education is a process, method, or course of action that ensures equal distribution of educational implementation across all levels of society. This is inseparable from the growing awareness that education has a role in the development of the democratization of education with the motto "education for all." Equality in education includes two important aspects: equality and equal opportunity. Equality means equality of opportunity to obtain an education, while equity means justice in obtaining equal educational opportunities among various groups in society.
The equitable distribution of education in the sense of equal opportunity to obtain education has long been a problem that has received attention, especially in developing countries. Indonesia is one of the developing countries that has problems with the equal distribution of education due to the lack of human resource development in the community. In a survey of the quality of education, Indonesia ranks third from the bottom among 40 other countries.
Several factors can affect education in Indonesia, as follows:
Family Factors
A child's first school is his family, where he will learn everything from both his parents and the adults around him. What is instilled at home is usually carried by children at all times and is believed to be true.
School Factors
School is also one of the factors that influence education because that is where students will study and learn other things. Also at school, children will begin to interact with people outside their family who come from different backgrounds, have different parenting styles, have different values, and so on.
Environmental Factors
The character and attitude of friends at school can affect children, and vice versa. This is where it is important to choose friends selectively so that what is called "wrong association" does not occur.
