On planet Earth in 1988, young Peter Quill sits in the waiting room of a hospital, listening with headphones to "Awesome Mix Tape no. 1" on his Walkman. His grandpa comes out and gets him so he can say goodbye to his mom, who is dying of cancer. His mom gives him a present and tells him his father was an angel and that Peter is just like him. She asks for his hand, but he's too scared to take it. Just then, she dies. The distraught Peter runs outside and is abducted by a spaceship. (imdb)
Twenty-six years later on the planet Morag, an adult Peter Quill, a.k.a. Star-lord, is searching for a mysterious Orb whilst listening to Awesome Mix Tape no. 1. He finds the Orb and takes it out of a laser enclosure. Almost immediately, Korath, and his henchmen find Peter. After a shootout, Peter makes it to his ship, the Milano, and escapes. (imdb)
Peter Quill is an Earth human, they are called Terran. He is humanly kind and a bit mischievous. He tricked Korath and his cronies using the tools he had and flee from the scene. When he tried to sell it to the broker, the broker found out that Ronan, a Kree fanatic, also hunts this orb. Peter got kicked out from the store. Outside, he met Gamora, who apparently was an ally of Ronan. She is beautiful and Quill is a little bit playful, this gave Gamora an advantage. She grabbed the orb and ran away. Both of them are involved in a romp around the Xandar's town square. Rocket and Groot, the bounty hunters see opportunity in catching Peter, so they join the romp. It caused commotion so they were taken to prison by the Nova HQ.
In the prison, Gamora is being targeted as she helps Ronan to kill people and families. At night, Peter saw Gamora was being taken by some other outlaws so he followed them. When Drax, one of the outlaws, was putting a knife on Gamora's neck, Peter interfered. He persuaded Drax to leave Gamora alone for she was accused of betraying Ronan. If Drax kept her alive, Ronan would come to fetch her and that would be the time for Drax to kill him. Peter saved a lot of people who seemed cannot be trusted. The other scenes show that he stopped Rocket who was about to kill Drax for calling him a vermin. He saved the lives of outlaws. Peter strengthen the bonds between them.
He is realistically depicted as a handsome guy in his late 20s, a white man, and apparently can get any woman's of any race hearts instantly. It is important because he can influence people using his looks, appearance, and intonacy. There are a lot of scenes when Peter does negotiation and diplomacy and all of them go well and he gets what he wants. For instance, there is a scene when Yondu almost kill him for turning his back against Yondu for his own advantage. He dramatically pulled out a speech that convinced Yondu to postpone his will to kill Peter in order to obtain the orb.
He is also cunning and witty. He knows how to not to make a mistake that is going to disadvantage him. When they about to fly out of the prison, he made sure that Gamora saw that the orb is in his bag and she carried it to the ship. It turned out that he had had the Orb when he was getting his walkman from the prison guard. He knew that without the Orb he would be nothing. In another scene, when the five of the Guardians of the Galaxy have succeeded obtaining the Orb, Peter gave Yondu the fake Orb and told Yondu to not to open it for it holds destructive powers.
He is consistent of being a good Terran, even though he have been judged as an outlaw. He has not change a bit throughout the movie.
