Bruno Fernandes criticized the holding of the 2022 World Cup. The Portugal national team star highlighted Qatar's human rights violations against stadium construction workers.
"We know the atmosphere of the World Cup, what happened in the last few weeks, the last few months, about people who died in the construction of stadiums. We are not at all happy about that," Fernandes said, quoted by the BBC.
"This is not the time we want to play in the World Cup. I think for everyone, players and fans, this is not the best time. The kids are still going to school, people are working and the time is not the best to watch the game," he continued.
"We want football for everyone. Everyone has to be included and involved in the World Cup because the World Cup is a world event. It's for everyone, it doesn't matter who. These things I don't think should happen anywhere."
"The World Cup is more than just football, it's a party for fans and players. Something fun to watch and must be done in a better way," said Bruno Fernandes.
