The Extraordinary Metamorphosis of Butterflies

The caterpillar continually eats plant material, shedding its skin multiple times to accommodate its expanding body. It undergoes a series of molts, shedding the old skin and revealing a new, larger exoskeleton. Stage 3: Pupa (Chrysalis). When the caterpillar reaches its full size, it forms a chrysalis. Within this protective casing, a wondrous process occurs. Stage 4: Adult Butterfly. After the metamorphosis is complete, an adult butterfly emerges from the chrysalis. Its wings, once tightly folded, expand and dry, revealing breathtaking colors and intricate patterns. The adult butterfly has a proboscis, a long tube-like mouthpart, which it uses to sip nectar from flowers. This feeding behavior not only sustains the butterfly but also allows for the pollination of plants, contributing to the ecological balance of their habitats.
