The Importance of Physics in Our Life

What comes to your mind when you first hear the word "physics" ? You might think of a confusing problem or even long and complicated lines of the formula that seem unpractical. But that is not entirely correct because physics is way more than that. Physics is the study of the nature of the universe. In other words, by learning physics, we are basically trying to find out how things work. Every activity that we do every single day is always related to physics. Such as how we can see the world, how we can walk, and how we can hear each other voices are just a few examples from tons of activity that has to do with physics. Every technology that has become a part of our life also has physics at its foundational level. This is something that most people do not realize. Many people refuse to study physics because they are told it is boring, complicated, and impractical, which completely wrong. So, through this article, I will tell you why physics is essential to our life and worth studying.

By learning physics, we could know how everything works in our universe. Maybe you still remember when you were a child, your brain was filled with various questions about the universe that we lived in. For example, why the shape of every star and planet is a sphere, why the earth revolves around the sun but not the other way around, why the apple falls but the moon does not, and other similar questions. All those questions have the same answer, which turns out to be physics. Our universe is governed by the laws called laws of physics, which determine where every physical object has to move and how they interact with each other. Our universe is like a simulation that runs by lines of code behind it, and that code is something that we usually call laws of physics. By learning physics, we could understand the truth behind every phenomenon in our universe, and truth has predictive power. Simply saying, people who study physics have the privilege of predicting the future. People who understand physics have a unique and exciting perspective to see the world like no others.

The process of learning physics also develops excellent problem-solving skills. In solving physics problems, we are used to breaking things down to the most fundamental truth. This is why physics is a perfect framework for thinking about any problems. This framework of thinking has a name called the first principle method. Physics also hones our creativity in solving a problem because there are often many ways to solve it in physics. For example, we can use a kinematics formula or conservation of energy to determine the velocity of the ball that we throw from the top of a building when it hits the ground. Both ways are correct and lead to the same answer. In a more complex problem, it is crucial to choose the most simple and elegant way to solve that problem. This is where our creativity takes place.

I cannot imagine a world without physics. Thanks to physics, we live in a modern era where everything is effortless and convenient. With the discoveries in physics, humankind can invent new and modern tech.nology that has become part of our life now. A transistor, a vital part of most modern technology like computers, phones, and televisions, is invented by Physicists John Bardeen and Walter Brattain. The fact that we can use electricity everywhere is because of the invention of the Alternating Current by famous physicist Nikola Tesla which allows us to deliver electricity over long distances and finally reach our house, school, and work building. Other technologies like the internet, motorcycles, cars, planes, fans and air conditioners are impossible without physics knowledge. By learning physics, you might also become one of those great people who invented new and innovative technology that changed the world into a better place.

Learning physics has a lot of benefits for our life, from understanding how things work to developing a new and innovative technology that could change the world. However, physics is not just for geniuses like Isaac Newton and Albert Einstein. Physics is also not just for those who want to major in engineering. Physics is for anyone. Those  equations unravel the beauty of the fabrics of the universe. Physics is not just about ordinary, long, and complicated lines of equations. By learning physics, we can understand what happens behind the cosmos. That way, we can appreciate and be grateful for the beauty hidden in the canvas of the universe.
