The world keeps turning, and so do the generations that inhabit it. If we ever found it difficult to understand Generation Z, then be prepared to face an even greater challenge with Generation Alpha. This generation grows up in an era of abundant information, with ways of thinking and behaving that are often difficult to predict. What is Alpha Generation? What are the characteristics of this Alpha Generation?

Mark McCrindle, a social researcher who first introduced the term Alpha Generation. According to McCrindle, Alpha Generation is the most intelligent generation compared to previous generations. They grow up in a highly stimulating environment and have access to unlimited information.

Generation Alpha, born between the early 2010s and 2020s, is the generation most familiar with digital technology. They were born into a world that is already highly connected, where smartphones, tablets, and the internet are an inseparable part of daily life. Unlike previous generations who might need to adapt to technology, Generation Alpha grows up with technology as a natural tool for learning, playing, and socializing.

One of the most prominent characteristics of  Alpha Generation is their dependence on technology. Since birth, they have been surrounded by gadgets, applications, and the internet. This makes them very skilled in using various digital devices. They grow up easily switching from one device to another and have high multitasking abilities. However, proximity to technology also brings challenges. According to Dr. Neil Aldrin, M.Psi, a psychologist, Generation Alpha tends to be more pragmatic and materialistic because they were raised in an era of technological advancement.

In addition to being tech-savvy, Alpha Generation also tends to be more individualistic and creative. They have easy access to information from all over the world, allowing them to explore various interests and talents. They are also more open to diversity and inclusivity. Education and psychology experts emphasize the importance of providing proper guidance for Alpha Generation. They need to be taught how to use technology wisely, as well as develop strong social and emotional skills. In addition, a conducive and creative learning environment is also very important to support their growth and development.

In conclusion, Alpha Generation is a generation born in the digital era, bringing significant changes to the social and cultural landscape. Growing up in an environment that is highly connected with technology, they possess unique characteristics that distinguish them from previous generations. Alpha Generation is generally very tech-savvy, individualistic, creative, and open to diversity.
