Fan art is one of the most popular types of art nowadays. With the tremendous fans of works such as comics, anime, film, and games, fan art became one of the most often thing that a fan created to show their love. Because of that, many people that just started to become a fan of a particular work would try to make their own fan art. Nowadays, people can make their own fan art freely with different kinds of media such as, paper, tablet, laptop, PC, or even smartphone. For those that not familiar with creating fan art, of course it is a difficult task to do. That is why, guidance is needed for a beginner in creating fan art. There are several basic things that a beginner should do in creating a fan art.
The first thing that  a beginner should do is choosing a media for their fan art. A beginner is usually recommended to start with a piece of paper and a pencil, but they can also choose what they prefer. Some people are usually more adapt in using smartphone or tablet rather than pencil. If they prefer smartphone or tablet, they should install an application such as, ibisPaint X or Clip Studio.
The next thing a beginner should do is to look for a reference. If they have a particular work or character they want to draw, they should choose the simpler version. This is because they will have a really hard time if they start from the complex one.
After choosing a reference, a beginner should start to draw a sketch. It does not have to be good from the start, they can just draw the overall posture of the character to make it easier to draw. After that, they can begin to make it in shape and add more details. Do not get discouraged even if the result is not up to expectations because art is also about the process. The skills needed will gradually improve if they preserve and exercise to draw regularly.
The next thing to do is to thicken the sketch that have been created before and add some shade. A beginner can also choose to add color to the drawing, but it is recommended to do that after the skills needed is already formed.
Lastly, a beginner should do finishing steps such as, erase unneeded parts, thicken some parts that necessary, draw a signature, and do not forget to give a credit for the original author or the source of the character of your fan art. In addition, to improve your fan art, try to watch tutorial starting from the simple one, draw regularly, and start to add more complexity in the fan art step by step.
