World has been shocked by Middle East people power blast for the last whole month and the intense crowd action keep continued to this February. An administration had fallen in Tunisia brought the wind of revolution to its political-static neighbouring country. In recent days, Egyptian can not do their ussual daily activities due to people protest. Today (2/2) President Hosni Mubarak annouced his political statements to not seek another presidential term. But he will stay his position until the next election. Hundred of thousands of people have been occupied city of Cairo and other main cities to call Mubarak presidency step down. People's disatisfaction of political and economic bacwardness in Mubarak 30 years presidency has led to people power and clash between protesters and the police. The riot had taken several casualties from protesters side. The political turmoil condition has forced foreigners immeditely to leave Egypt. The Indonesian government had fled 450 Indonesian citizen from Egypt. At least six thousand Indonesian in Egypt, four hundreds of them are students. Will the political face of Egypt change in future time? What happen in Egypt today almost the same as in Indonesian people power in 1998. Hundred of thousands people demanded Suharto presidency to step down from his 32 years regime. Will the Egyptian follow Indonesian steps to democracy? Does western democracy work in conservative Islamic community such in Egypt? Despite of its Islam majority, Indonesia is more moderate than the Islamic community in Middle East. Political reform which brought western democratic value has change the face of Indonesian political and economic charateristic. Indonesian third largest democratic achievement in the world bring the country to "jet lag" in some sectors, such as liberal "free fall" economics, social disparities, leadership struggles and state-budget-sucking parliement. After achieving its democracy, Indonesia still unable to solve some of its crucial problems, such as poverty, high unemployment rate, government administration corruption, weak law enforcement, bad access to healthcare and proper education. Being to long in such a full restriction regime could give people bad ability to build another good governance. It could take a long time to be succeed. As it would be happen in Egypt. 30 years of political restriction can decrease the ability to consolidate among political leaders and interests. The moderates will meet the conservatives' harst policies. The nationalists agendas will collide with the western side politians' interests. And social economic policies will conflict the liberal markets ideas. Consolidation will be harst in Egypt political and economic development. Being free from limitations is everybodies desire. In our though being free from current undesirable condition is the biggest dream. But there a lot of works to do to rebuild another new world that the people are dreaming of. Some wrong choice could bring the people to another chapter of nightmare. Aditya Dwitaji. Jakarta, 2 February 2011.
