In the task of creating a rubric for the speaking assessment, I want to make sure that every important aspect of speaking ability is clearly assessed. Therefore, I created a rubric with five assessment categories which include fluency, pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, and delivery. Each category has four levels of assessment that reflect the level of student ability.

For the fluency category, I give 10 points to students who can speak fluently and naturally without stopping to think. At this level, students are able to speak fluently and without pause for thought.

At the 8-point level, students can speak with some hesitation and pause for thought but still can be understood.

At the 5-point level, students have difficulty speaking with frequent hesitation. At the 3-point level, students have difficulty speaking, and communicating effectively, and difficult to understand.

For the pronunciation category, I give 10 points to students who are able to pronounce words correctly and sounds accurately. At this level, students are able to understand words and sounds correctly with few mistakes. At the 8 point level, students can pronounce words correctly and sounds accurately but there are still some errors. At the 5 point level, students have difficulty pronouncing words and sounds with many errors. At the 3-point level, students have difficulty pronouncing words and sounds with very limited accuracy.

For the vocabulary category, I give 10 points to students who use a variety of vocabulary according to context. At this level, students use a wide range of vocabulary appropriate to the context. At the 8 point level, students use the correct vocabulary. At the 5 point level, students use a limited range of vocabulary with errors. At the 3 point level, students use a very limited vocabulary.

For the grammar category, I give 10 points to students who show a good level of grammatical accuracy. At this level, students show a good level of grammatical accuracy. At the 8-point level, students demonstrate an acceptable level of grammatical accuracy. At the 5-point level, students show a limited level of grammatical accuracy. At the 3-point level, students show a very limited level of grammatical accuracy.

For category delivery, I give 10 points to students who can engage the audience through tone of voice, speech tempo, and body language variations. At this level, students are able to engage the audience through interesting variations of the tone of voice, speech tempo, and body language. At level 8, students can engage the audience through tone of voice and tempo of speech but this is still limited. At level 5, students engage the audience through tone of voice and limited speech tempo. At level 3, students engage the audience through minimal tone of voice, speech tempo, and body language.

Finally, I added an "Overall Rating" category to provide an overall rating of the presentation. This category can reflect the overall assessment of the student's performance in speaking assessment.

That's my story in making an assessment rubric for speaking assessment, I hope it's useful.
