Nadiem Makarim was born on July 4, 1984 in Jakarta, Indonesia. He is an entrepreneur and public official best known as the founder and CEO of Gojek, an online motorcycle taxi service platform that revolutionized the transportation industry in Indonesia. Nadiem studied at Brown University, USA, and earned a Bachelor's degree in Government Science. He then continued his studies at Harvard Business School with an MBA.
After returning to Indonesia, Nadiem founded Gojek in 2010, which initially focused on ojek services. Thanks to technological innovation and development, Gojek rapidly grew into a superapp that offers a wide range of services, including goods delivery, digital payments, and food services.
In 2019, Nadiem was appointed Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia in President Joko Widodo's cabinet. One of his notable initiatives is the Kampus Merdeka Program, which gives students the freedom to choose learning experiences outside of the academic curriculum.
