Recently, the Koin Jagat phenomenon has gained significant attention across Indonesia. This application blends augmented reality (AR) technology with location-based games, enabling users to hunt virtual coins in various public spaces. While its concept is innovative and engaging, the phenomenon has revealed critical issues, particularly in the form of public facility damage and the government's inability to effectively manage its social impact.

Koin Jagat became popular for its interactive gameplay that merges technology with physical activity. Players are required to visit specific locations to collect coins, which can be exchanged for enticing rewards such as cash or vouchers. However, this enthusiasm has led to unintended consequences. In cities like Jakarta and Bandung, public parks and other facilities have suffered significant damage due to the uncontrolled behavior of players. Plants were trampled, ceramic tiles cracked, and public amenities were left in disrepair.

The situation has highlighted the government's lack of preparedness to address the societal effects of emerging technologies. Despite the application's accessibility to a wide audience, there was no proactive effort to monitor or regulate its use. The response from authorities has often been reactive, with actions taken only after widespread damage was reported. For example, in Surabaya, the city government raised concerns with law enforcement and regulatory bodies only after facilities were harmed. These delayed measures failed to prevent the damage, leaving communities to bear the consequences.

Furthermore, the absence of clear regulations regarding location-based applications like Koin Jagat underscores a gap in Indonesia's technology governance. Collaboration between the government and app developers to establish guidelines and responsibilities could have mitigated the risks. Additionally, there has been minimal effort to educate the public about responsible app use and the importance of protecting shared spaces. Many users, driven by the lure of rewards, were unaware of the long-term consequences of their actions on the environment and community assets.

Public spaces, intended as areas for recreation and community bonding, have instead become victims of negligence. The resulting damage not only diminishes their aesthetic and functional value but also strains local government budgets allocated for repairs. This situation emphasizes the urgent need for authorities to view public spaces as essential assets requiring careful stewardship, especially in the face of technological trends that may disrupt their use.

The Koin Jagat phenomenon serves as a reminder that innovation must go hand-in-hand with foresight and responsibility. The government plays a crucial role in ensuring that technological advancements contribute positively to society while safeguarding shared resources. By addressing these gaps, Indonesia can better navigate the challenges posed by emerging technologies and protect its public spaces for future generations.
