Media Help Students to be Criticized

Learning in schools is now beginning to be adapted to the development of information technology, resulting in many changes and shifts in the educational paradigm. Technological advances and developments have been so included, so that the use of teaching aids such as audio, visual, audio-visual, and school equipment is adjusted to current developments. And also should be adapted to the demands of the curriculum in accordance with the material, methods, and the level of student learning ability in order to achieve learning goals well in school. In other words, teachers get used to using their learning media as support. Internet is which facilitates the ongoing learning process. One of them teacher has given news that taken from one article and an image to be criticized by students.

First of all, an image will be criticized by student. Students can interpret many kinds of images. One example in case that consists of two glass bottles, where the first bottle contains a ship, and the second bottle contains plastic bottles that are not feasible. Such like: first, student can interpret that in 1875 more people sailed using ships without any obstacles, the state of the sea or ocean in a clean state. Whereas in 2019, there is a lot of rubbish that not easily broken down as the drink bottles. This is due to human behavior negligent. Second, student can interpret the bottles become a means of delivering one's message. How to communicate by enter a written message in a container (usually a glass or plastic bottle) and throwing it into the sea or ocean. This is intended if someone picks up the bottle and reads the message in it. The message is not addressed to certain are expected to bring bottles to distant place. But it was just in 1875, it is really different within 2019.  Due to human activity, one useful tool to deliver a message does not work again. This is because garbage piled up makes the bottles containing the message appear invisible to the pile.

Then, news has taken from one article to be criticized by the student. One example: The case in news has the title "A woman from Uganda who gave birth 44 children reveals what her life is like". What comes into student mind? It is really fantastic. But when student read that article, Mariam as a mom is very strong woman. Since he was 13 years old, he was married by a 27-year old man this man also often hit Mariam. But Mariam remained strong. More impressively, she is a loving mom, who wants to fight to send all her children to school to succeed. She never said give up on her life. It is just that the most burdensome thing every day is trying to meet the daily food she should do many things. And this is what is called a hard work. And hard work was made the principle of her life.

In conclusion, many ways to support the learning processes. In years past, education was focused on rote learning and the ability to retain and repeat and information. Problem solving and experimentation happened in the science lab. But today, learning is should moving toward developing skills that prepare young people to navigate the real word with their critical thinking. The media applied above can be an example. By showing a news or picture that has implied meaning can stimulate students' critical thinking.
