Gembrong Market Buildings, East Jakarta experienced a major fire on Sunday (24/4) night around 21.00 WIB. According to Gendhis (18) as a resident around the fire, it was caused by an electrical short circuit from one of the two-story houses. Then the current spread to the homes of local residents and caused another explosion so that the fire spread and scorched 400 buildings.
Â
Gendhis explained that the fire that started at Mrs. Rawinah's house was managed by local residents but was unsuccessful, because the fire was too big and the houses around it were mostly made of wood. The size of the fire was also caused by a gas cylinder belonging to a resident's house exploded and the fire spread to one of the warehouses where there were fireworks, so that the explosion got bigger and almost evenly distributed to the residents' houses.
Â
The fire ended in being handled by 130 personnel and as many as 26 fire engines. The fire began to extinguish and the cooling process occurred around 01.00 WIB, which was followed by sweeping by officers. Ghendis explained based on information that the East Jakarta Gembrong Market fire had scorched 400 buildings with a total of around 1000 people in five RTs of Cipinang Besar Utara Urban Village affected by the fire.
