Panic Buying Source : Media Indonesia

As of today, there are 2,273  cases of coronavirus in Indonesia, with a death count almost reaching 200 lives. This pandemic not only has brought death and weariness it also caused the crisis to the world in many sectors; the unemployment rate increases, scarcity of some medical products, price increase, panic buying and many more.

There are some strategies that Indonesia's government has taken to combat COVID-19, such as large-scale social restrictions, regional quarantine, civil emergency, sanctions, and incentives. But is that enough to defeat the spread of this novel virus?

As a law-abiding citizen, I think that those actions the government has taken to combat have covered a lot of aspects but not enough to maim the swift spread of the virus. As we all know Indonesia haven't commenced a full lockdown. This can cause people to freely roam outside. there are other problems as well such as panic buying, scarcity of some medical products, and the increase of product prices. These problems are not regulated in the government attempt of encountering the virus.

If I was president I would also pay attention to quotidian problems as well as large scale problems. These will be my efforts of countering the quick spreading of the virus.

As a president, I must ensure that all of these problems to be taken care of.  To prevent panic buying, a rule needs to be implemented. The amount of items that a person can buy needs to be limited. I am aware that some people might not be able to fuel all their daily necessities, but this action will prevent the reselling of essentials. Each store will be asked to limit the amount of items a customer can purchase which is 10 items per store. I am also aware of the loophole of this regulations. Each customer must bring their identification card such as KTP/SIM/STNK and the purchase will be recorded so the person cannot purchase any more items in that week.

The increasing prices of masks are also a problem that needs to be addressed. The use of masks is important in slowing down the spread of the virus. I will implement a rule that requires all people who went outside to wear a surgical mask. Whether they are entering a building or using public transportations such as taxis, buses, MRT or trains. They will not be allowed to enter if they are not wearing any masks. With this, everyone will have no choice, but to use a mask wherever they go.  I am aware of the rarity of the masks in these trying days. So another regulation Is necessary. As president, I will forbid the selling and reselling of masks outside verified pharmacies and hospitals and limit the amount of mask customers can purchase to two per week. By doing this masks will be more available to the public.
