"Being able to speak a foreign language is an added value", often hear or see this sentence? And where did you get it ?

Yes, being able to master a foreign language is an important point, someone who is able to do that often gets added value in prestigious events. Writing essays, filling in questions, interviewing, speech using the English.

When I was in high school, I had the opportunity to take part in the selection of Ambassador for Students with National Achievement version of The Platinum Skills in Surabaya 2019. I didn't think that I would qualify for the national level this is the first. I'm just for fun to register because my friends at school also signed up. So, I thought what's wrong with trying. There I met many friends from different regions and backgrounds, they are the great successors of the nation. I am very grateful for this experience because I learned a lot from them. This experience made me realize that being able to speak foreign languages is something that must be mastered by young people, not only to get added value, but language skills are also needed in building social relationships because we will not only meet Indonesians, but will meet many people with different language backgrounds.

They made speeches and interviews in English, some of whom could speak Russian and Japanese. This makes me feel proud to be placed among great people like them.

At that time I always used Indonesian from interviews to my speeches. I don't feel ashamed to use it because basically my native language is Indonesian. However, from there I realized that mastering a foreign language is an ability that I must have. Since then, I have always had a desire to be able to speak English and several other foreign languages and I am working on that because this is an important thing for me in facing the era of globalization without forgetting to prioritize Indonesian as my native language.

Through this article, I would like to invite readers to realize the importance of foreign languages without reducing the existence of their mother tongue as the main language. Hopefully my experience can motivate readers to keep learning foreign languages.
