As the third biggest coffee producer after Brazil and Vietnam, at least 768.000 ton or about 6.6% of world’s coffee production in 2012. We were blessed with geographical position that support our production, with more than 1.3 million hectares from 2014, it’s a big start to born various coffee bean. And it also makes us become a country with the biggest coffee plantation in the world, while Brazil in second position with 650 hectares and Vietnam with 420 hectares. Maybe you were asking, is the calculation right? Who calculated it? It’s Mintel, a Global Market Research and Market Insight. Move along with rapid growing of international coffee industry for the past 5 years, ruled by Indonesia with 19.6%, India with 15.1%, and Vietnam with 14.9%. It makes countries in Asia more superior than Europe and America, how could it happen?

Massive coffee inovations

Apparently, consumption of coffee beverages in Asia has a higher level than any other country in the world, especially in Asia Pacific. This growth has been watched by Mintel since 2011 until 2016. This high coffee market activity is nothing but high intention buyer by variety innovation to enjoy fresher coffee. In other hand, not only in instant way, but they also realize the differences between instant coffee and brewing coffee. This opportunity is well-accepted by coffee producer so they able to launch coffee pods, coffee capsules, and any other coffee beverages.

The ‘Third Wave’ coffee

What exactly is third wave coffee? Shortly, it’s a phase where coffee lover started to trace coffee from the start until it blended—get into our mouth. This trend’s dominated by American. However, for the past 5 years Asian people continuously shows their passion of coffee, especially in Indonesia, middle-end to high-end people in Indonesa admitted that the quality of brewing coffee is more important than instant coffee. This point is slightly seen by people’s behaviour of consuming local coffee. They are also often to create a coffee-based event to promote their proudness from each region. Moreover, these event is not only to taste a local one, but also from abroad. And this habit is about to continue for next years.
