Data Mining is a data extraction process to get patterns in a database, this process can get results in the form of profitable information. Data mining can be applied to item classification, clustering, prediction, association rules, and decision trees. Therefore, data mining is often used in solving problems that exist in a company.

1. According to Witten (2005), Data Mining is a process of finding patterns in data. This process is automated or often semi-automatic. The pattern found must be meaningful and the pettern provides benefits, usually economic benefits.

2. According to Han (2006), Data Mining is a an activity to find interesting patterns from large amounts of data, data can be stored in database, data warehouses, or other information storage. Data Mining is related to other disciplines, such as Database Systems, Data Warehousing, statistics, Machine Learning, Information Retrieval, and high-level computing. In addition, Data Mining is supported by other sciences such as neural networks, pettern recognition, spatil data analysis, image Database, Signal Processing.

3.According to Micheline Kamber "Data Mining is an activity of looking for and finding interesting patterns from large amounts of data, sources of data that can be extracted in data mining can be sourced from databases, data warehouses, or other information storage".

4. According to Budi (2007), Data Mining is often referred to as knowledge discovery in database. Knowledge discovery in database that includes collegting, using historical data to find regularities, petterns or relationships in large data sets.

5. According to Pramudiono (2007) Data Mining is also referred to as a process to explore added value in the from of knowladge that has not been known manually from a data set.

From the several meanings of Data Mining above, according to the experts, i can conclude that data mining is a technique of dingging up valuble information that is hidden or hidden in a very large data colletion (database) so that an interesting patter is found that was previously unknown. Therefor, data mining is actually has long roots from flieds of science such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, statistics and databases.
