Indonesian badminton player Greysia Polii has officially retired as an athlete. The announcement was made at Istora Senayan, Jakarta today, Sunday (12/6), coinciding with the final of the Indonesia Masters 2022 event.

This event was attended by many invitees, such as fellow athletes from various countries, celebrities, to PBSI officer. This event was enlivened by Raisa and 'fun' matches with world athletes, such as Hendra Setiawan, Yuta Watanabe, Wang Chilin, and many others.

As is known, Greysia started her career as an Indonesian athlete in 2003. Up to now, she has been involved in the world of badminton for 30 years. Almost three decades, many struggles and steep roads through Greysia. Until her last achievement, winning a gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, this was Greysia Polii's career journey as a proud athlete of Indonesia, from beginning to retirement.

Started from Jaya Raya Karta

Greysia Polii is a former Indonesian badminton athlete who was born in Jakarta, August 11, 1987. She is the son of Willy Polii and Evie Pakasi from Minahasa, North Sulawesi. She is the third of five children.

Greysia started her career in 1995. At a young age, she joined one of the Jaya Raya Jakarta badminton clubs.

Women's and Mixed Doubles Athletes

Over time, Greysia started her career as a women's and mixed doubles athlete. In 2003, Greysia appeared in the Malaysia Satellite tournament. She was paired with Heni Budiman and made it to the semifinals. Not only that, she also won silver and bronze medals in various national and international events.

In 2004, she helped the junior national team and won bronze in the women's doubles category at the Asian Junior badminton championship with Heni and the mixed doubles at the World Junior championship with Muhammad Rijal.

First Gold Medal

Joined in the senior national team, Greysia made her debut in 2006 at the All England event. At that time, she was paired with Jo Novita. But unfortunately, her struggle was stopped against China's third seeded pair, Yang Wei and Zhang Jiewen.

Had experienced defeat many times in various prestigious events, did not make her give up. As a result, she got her first gold medal at the 2007 Southeast Asian Games.

Retires

Now, Greysia has announced that she will retire as a badminton athlete. Greysia admits that she plans to retire several times, but plans. Until finally officially hang up the racket on Sunday (12/6).

On her last day as an athlete, Greysia held a lively event. She had played a 'fun match' with several world athletes. She also invited Raisa. The event was successfully held and made the audience happy.
