Lecturers from Semarang University (USM) have once again proven their dedication to community empowerment and international collaboration. As part of their International Community Service initiative, a team of five lecturers---Faisal Yusuf (Tourism Study Program), Citra Andriani (Management Tourism Study Program), Guruh Mulia Widayat (Management Tourism Study Program), Anandha (D3 Management Tourism Study Program), and Sinta Pramucitra (Communication Studies Tourism Study Program)---successfully carried out a series of impactful activities at a learning center abroad.

The community service program was held on November 27, 2024, in Learning Activity Center Sentul in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This learning facility, which acts as an educational hub for local youngsters, offered the ideal environment for the USM team to carry out their tasks. The dynamic setting of learning activity center Sentul enabled the lecturers to interact directly with the students and the surrounding community, cultivating a culture of learning and creativity that had a long-lasting impact.

This program, supported by USM's Research, Development, and Community Service Institute (LPPM) and the International Office, was a continuation of a prior abroad visit. Its goal was to encourage intellectual collaboration and deliver practical advantages to the local community, particularly students at elementary schools.

Empowering Communities Through Education and Art

The program featured two main activities designed to directly impact the local population. One of the highlights was a creative session titled Mask of Expression: Art Therapy for Emotional Well-Being. This activity engaged elementary school students in coloring exercises, providing a platform for emotional expression and promoting mental well-being through art.

The event began with a warm welcome for the students, creating a friendly and inclusive atmosphere. The lecturers guided the children through the art therapy session, encouraging them to express their emotions through the colors and designs they chose. This activity not only provided a therapeutic outlet but also helped foster creativity and self-confidence among the participants.

Strengthening International Academic Collaboration

Alongside the direct advantages to the local community, the initiative aimed to build international intellectual links. Working with local educators and community leaders allowed the USM team to offer their experience while also learning about diverse educational techniques and cultural viewpoints.

Faisal Yusuf, one of the participating lecturers, emphasized the significance of such initiatives. "These programs allow us to contribute to global society while enriching our own teaching and research with new insights. It's a two-way exchange of knowledge and experience," he said.
