VideoProduction for films and television requires the cinematographer to set the camera shots and decide what type of camera angle and movement that is necessary for a scene. The following are some camera angle, composition, and movement techniques that are commonly used on videoProduction process:

  • Dolly: the camcorder is mounted on some kind of a cart which moves along a track for a very smooth shoot. Also known as a trucking shot or tracking shot.
  • Dolly Zoom: a type of movement in which the camcorder moves further or closer from the object while at the same time adjusting the zoom angle to maintain the object the same size within the frame.
  • Follow: in this technique the camcorder physically follows the subject at constant distance.
  • Pan: the camcorder makes horizontal movement, right and left.
  • Pedestal: in this technique the camcorder must be moved vertically with respect to the subject.
  • Track: it is almost synonymous yet rather roughly like the dolly shot, but often explained more specific as movement which remains a certain constant range from the occurring actions, especially the side-to-side movement.
  • Truck: synonymous or other common name for dolly or tracking.
  • Tilt: this technique involves moving the camcorder angle vertically, for example, pointing the camcorder up and down (Rather than moving the entire unit of camcorder up and down).
  • Zoom: technically this is not recognized as camera move, but a change of the lens focus which gives the effect of moving the camcorder further away or closer.

From the camcorder angles mentioned above, we can conclude that on a motion picture video Production, that those techniques are commonly used.

They are usually combined along the entire motion picture, the usage of each of the camera angles technique is very relative to the necessity of the scene that are being shot, some scene needs specific camera movement that other scene might not need. The right selection of camera angle, composition, and movement, along with the precise editing process is the essential part of videoProduction process to ensure that the final result of the video is joyful to watch.
