Who doesn't know Eng Breaking? If you don't know, I will tell you a little about it. Eng Breaking is a blended English course that is so viral nowadays due to so many supporting testimonies toward this program. Talking about learning English, we have to consider that language learning is habitual learning. The more we use it, the more fluent we will be. This belief is applied by Eng Breaking and it works well. What about learning the language in schools? Do schools fail?
English is not first or second language among us. It is a foreign language. Some say that it is an 'alien' language since it's very difficult to understand by most of students. The students (who have graduated from senior high schools) exactly have learned it for about 12-14 years but still the results are far from expected. Still, many students cannot use the language well, even they don't get the point yet about the language usage.
I have been teaching English for about 20 years but I feel I did not do well in my teaching. It was not because I was bad but rather the situation and the curriculum 'led' me to the 'failure'. It is not wise to blame the situation and curriculum because they just happened in accordance with the era at the time. Now the era changes, the situation changes and the English curriculum should be changed.
Since I was an undergraduate student, I have been so familiar with the proverb that language learning is habitual learning. But, the reality gives different spot. In public schools, English is not taught everyday but just twice or three times a week. Even now, English is taught only once a week based on Curriculum 2013 for vocational students. So?
