THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PHILOSOPHY, SCIENCE AND RELIGION

Philosophy And Science

Is philosophy the same as science? We must emphasize from the beginning that the two are not the same. But, the important thing is that the two are interconnected. The difference between philosophy and science is also apparent when dealing with practical reality problems. Science is binational and analytical for certain fields, but philosophy does not merely provide information from life to be only one part that must be linked to other knowledge.

Difference:

The material object (field) of philosophy is universal (general), that is, everything that exists (reality). Whereas the material object of science (scientific knowledge) is special and empirical. That is, science is only focused on the discipline of each field in a rigid and compartmentalized, while the study of philosophy is not compartmentalized in a particular discipline.

The formal object (point of view) of philosophy is non fragmentary, because it seeks broad, deep and fundamental understanding of everything that exists. While science is fragmentary, specific, and intensive. Besides that, formal objects are technical in nature, which means that the way in which human ideas hold themselves together with reality.

Philosophy is carried out in an atmosphere of knowledge that emphasizes the power of speculation, criticism, and supervision, while science must be conducted research through a trial and error approach. Therefore, the value of science lies in the use of pragmatics, while the usefulness of philosophy arises from its values.

Philosophy contains further and deeper questions based on everyday reality experiences, while science is discursive, which is to describe logically, which starts from not knowing to knowing.

Philosophy provides the ultimate, absolute, and profound explanation to the primary (primary cause) while science shows causes that are not so deep, which is closer, secondary (secondary cause).

Philosophy and science are based on the power of reason, while religion is based on revelation.
Philosophy is preceded by doubt, science is preceded by curiosity, while religion is preceded by faith.
