Rueck’s Blue-flycatcher

[Cyornis ruckii]

Threats: habitat loss due to human exploitation of forests.

Distribution: Northern Sumatra, especially in Aceh.

Habitat: humid tropical forests and mountains in Sumatra, including Aceh.

Diet/Feeding: various types of small insects, such as flies, grasshoppers and larvae. They can also feed on worms and small arthropods.  

Social behavior: form monogamous pairs that can last throughout the breeding season or the entire year.

Males and females: The difference between males and females can be quite clear. Males have brighter and more striking colors than females.

Lifespan: 3 to 5 years in the wild. However, under captive conditions, they can live much longer.

Number of young: produces about 4 to 6 eggs in a single laying.

Interesting fact: Rueck’s Blue-flycatcher is classified as a threatened species.
