Scholastic Philosophy

The term scholastic is an adjective derived from the word school, which means school. There are also those who say that the word scholastic is taken from the word schuler which means teaching or school.

Scholasticism is a characteristic feature of the history of medieval philosophy. Scholastic philosophy is a philosophy devoted to theology or rational philosophy solving problems concerning thinking, being, physical, spiritual, good and bad. 

There are several definitions of the typical scolastic pattern, namely:

1. Scholastic Philosophy is a philosophy which has a purely religious style. Because this scholasticism is part of religious medieval culture.
2. Scholastic Philosophy is a philosophy devoted to theology, or a rational philosophy that solves problems with thinking, being, physical, spiritual, good or bad. From this formula came the terms: Jewish scholasticism, Arab scholasticism and others.
3. Scholastic Philosophy is a philosophical system that includes the ranks of natural nature knowledge, will be included in the form of a higher synthesis between belief and reason.

Scholastic Philosophy is a Christian philosophy, because it is heavily influenced by the teachings of the church. Scholastic philosophy is a philosophy that grew in the Middle Ages. And medieval western philosophy (476-1492) itself is often said to be "the dark century" or "the dark ages". This is because first, the Middle Ages was a time of ignorance and darkness, which must be passed quickly to arrive at the Renaissance, which is the age of light and knowledge. Second, scholastic philosophy is taught and written using Latin which is not high, complains using syllogism and empty debates, and only talks about religious matters.
