The Installation of DHCP Server in SMK Negeri 1 Klaten 2023

At this time technology is increasingly sophisticated and developing. Currently many people who access the internet ranging from children to adults, even the elderly there are still those who access the internet to find information or entertainment. When we turn on the computer and want to connect the computer to Wi-Fi, then it is not connected to the internet and only gets an IP address from the Wi-Fi. The possibility happen is that the DHCP server has a problem or the Wi-Fi is not in the DHCP settings, so that the client cannot receive the IP automatically.  

IP Address is a method of addressing a computer network by assigning IP Address to computers, routers and other network equipment. The IP address is actually not given to a computer or router, but it is given to the network interface of the computer or router (Book, 2010). DHCP is one of the protocols in computer networks whose function is to help computer network users to obtain IP addresses automatically. With this automatic addressing, computer network users who do not have an understanding of IP Address network addressing, subnetting, IP address blocks and IP Address classes will be helped in managing the computer network. 

MikroTik routerOS is an operating system that can be used to make a computer into a network router, including various features made for IP networks and wireless networks used by ISPs and hotspot providers. These features includes; Firewall &; Nat, Routing, Hotspot, Point to Point Tunneling Protocol, DNS Server, DHCP Server, Hotspot, and other features (Sumardi &; Zaen, 2018). This damage causes the client to be unable to connect to the internet and have to wait a long time to be able to access again, because the server that has been damaged still needs to be repaired so that the client gets an ip address and can reconnect to the internet. 

Seeing from this problem, researchers as students at SMK Negeri 1 Klaten have conducted experiments to create a DHCP server so that clients automatically get IP, therefore researchers in this article want to provide information about installing a DHCP Server at SMK Negeri 1 Klaten.

DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) is a protocol based on client/server architecture used to facilitate the placement of IP addresses in one network. A local network that does not use DHCP must assign IP addresses to all computers manually. When the user or client turns on his computer and connects it to a server that uses DHCP services, the computer automatically requests an IP address to the server, then the server answers the computer's request and gives it an IP address.

The following are the configuration of DHCP server using VMware Debian 10 booster;

  • Login as root user
  • Setting IP address, enter the command
  • Reboot
  • Login again as root user
  • Check IP, enter command
  • Make sure the server is connected to the internet, ping the google.com if the replay means that it is connected to the internet
  • Configure the repository, here we use the SMK NEGERI 1 KLATEN repository, enter the command then enter

  • Then update it with the command
  • Configurate Network Address Translation (NAT)
  • Then click "yes" twice.
  • Next, enter the command
  • Enter the command < systemctl enable netfilter-persistent.service>
  • Check active status or notEnter the command
  • Enter the command then on the menu enter
  • Enter the command
  • Enter the command
  • Enter the command
  • Enter the command /etc/iptables/ rules. v4>
  • Then
  • Install the DHCP server package, enter the command
  • Select the Ethernet that will be used to distribute the DHCP system to clients, enter the command < nano /etc/default/isc-dhcp-server>
  • Configure DHCP Server (Ip Address, Subnetmask, Gateway, DNS) and set the IP Address range that will be distributed to clients. Enter the command
  • Enter the command on this menu add
  • option domain-name-servers 192.168.100.1, 192.168.16.2; >,
  • < authoritative; >
  • < # A slightly different configuration for an internal subnet.
  • subnet 192.168.100.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 {
  •   range 192.168.100.10 192.168.100.30;
  •   option domain-name-servers 192.168.100.1, 192.168.16.2;
  •   option domain-name "sekolah100.sch.id";
  •   option routers 192.168.100.1;
  •   option broadcast-address 192.168.100.255;
  •   default-lease-time 600;
  •   max-lease-time 7200;  >
  • Restart service DHCP Server by command
  • Setting client /laptop client
  • Click windows + S
  • Then search for Control Panel
  • Choose view status and network tasks
  • Choose change adapter settings
  • Click twice on the Ethernet menu
  • Select internet protocol version 4 (TCP/IP v4)
  • On the General menu select Option an IP Address Automatically
  • On the support menu, click Details if the configuration is successful, our client or laptop will automatically get an IP address
  • Check, in this step we ping the gateway and ping to the google.com if replay then the configuration we did has been successful and we can browse.

Based on the description, we can conclude that DHCP Server (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) is very important in managing a network consisting of many devices. By using DHCP Server, network administrators can easily configure IP addresses for devices on the network automatically, reduce human error and increase efficiency.in addition, DHCP Server also helps manage and assist the use of IP addresses, and can allocate available IP addresses dynamically to newly connected devices to the network.
