Jump into Human Resources Department? This is basic functions of HR that you need to know!

Human Resources Department as known as one of "Owner's Right-Hand" is the most important department of the company. This department does direct contact with the worker included permanent and contracted staff, daily worker, also outsourcing. A company can't run its business without worker, isn't it? For monitoring and managing workers indeed the company need particular department that focused to handle it, that's why department of human resources is very required.

If we talk about Human Resources Management, its objectives is to utilize workers to achieve organization goals, concern to all managers of every level, and face a multitude of challenges. Also, human resources management has six main functions to do with, as describe below:

  1. Staffing, is all about how to manage people dan the process to ensure that company always has required number of employees, employees with appropriate skills, right job at the right time for employees. Also, has to create fixed job analysis, HR Planning for recruitment & selection (I'll write another blog about recruitment & selection though).
  2. Human Resources Development, is all about how to improving employee's ability. It can be done with Training and Developing. Training is providing learners (in this case is the employee) with specific knowledge and skills to improve their current roles, functionally for short term. Another one is Developing, it is more expansive and focuses on employee growth & future performance, functionally for long term.
  3. Compensation, is about all reward that individuals receive as a result of their employment. It can be divided into two types, these are: Financial and Non-financial.
    - Financial is a direct reward like salary, wages, bonusses, and indirect reward like medical insurance, security, and others or all the things that valued by money.
    - Non-financial is something that given by organization to its employee designed to address a specific need and is often provided in a non-cash form. As example; reward, physical environment, flexible time, leave, mentoring program, and other.
  4. Safety & Health, how to ensure that employees are free from illness and to forest a safe work environment. It is concerned with protecting the safety, health, and welfare of people engaged in work or employment.
  5. Employee & Labor Relation. In this part, HR as representative of the organization need to recognize a union and bargain with it if the firm's employees want union representation. HR activities with union also called as industrial relation.
  6. Performance Management, is goal-oriented process to ensure organizational processes are in place to maximize productivity by make and control each department goals are achieved.
