Social justice is a central principle in many political and religious systems, including Islam. In Islamic political thought, social justice is not only a moral demand, but also a principle that must be applied in the life of society and the state. The primary Islamic sources, the Qur'an and Hadith, emphasize the importance of justice and the command to be just. Classical Muslim thinkers, such as Al-Ghazali and Ibn Khaldun, reinforced this stance.

The purpose of this essay is to outline and analyze the ideas of social justice in Islamic political thought. By looking at the basic principles, the role of the state, and current issues, this essay will provide a complete understanding of the Islamic perspective on social justice and how it is applied in the modern world

DEFINITION & CONCEPT OF SOCIAL JUSTICE IN ISLAM

In Islam, social justice is based on the principles of equality, balance and fair sharing of resources along with community participation. Islam emphasizes the importance of individual and collective rights in the process of achieving social justice. According to the Quran and Hadith, social justice is essential for various aspects of life, including economics and politics.Islamic thought originates from the idea of social justice. Al-Ghazali stressed how important social justice is for governance, economics, and how the judiciary guarantees society's welfare. Ibn Khaldun also stressed how important social justice is for the state's stability and prosperity.

In addition, Islam includes principles that support social justice, such as the right to justice, the right to governance, and the right to social equality. Everyone has equal rights in terms of the law and the use of resources, and the government must ensure that its people have their rights and ensure that resources are distributed fairly. By understanding these principles, we can understand how Islam emphasizes social justice as an important element in life.

The basic principles of social justice in Islam include equal rights, protection of individual rights, and the duty of the state to provide for the welfare of all its citizens. In Islamic political thought, these principles and mechanisms are used to implement social justice in order to ensure that everyone in society is treated fairly and equally.

IMPLEMENTATION OF SOCIAL JUSTICE IN ISLAMIC POLITICAL THOUGHT

In Islamic political thought, the state is responsible for establishing and maintaining a system that supports social justice, which includes the application of fair laws, the implementation of economic policies that benefit all levels of society, and the protection of individual rights. The state is also expected to play an active role in combating poverty and inequality through the fair distribution of income.

In Islamic political thought, the mechanism of shura, or consultation, is also an important part of the implementation of social justice. Shura is a decision-making process that involves consultation and participation from different parts of society. In a political context, shura ensures that decisions are made that reflect the interests and needs of all parties involved, because everyone is given the opportunity to voice their opinions and to participate in the decision-making process. In the history of Islam, there are many examples of the application of social justice through fair political and economic policies.

One example is the government of Caliph Umar bin Khattab. He made many changes, such as safeguarding minority rights, implementing a fairer tax system, and providing a fair distribution of land, with the aim of ensuring that all levels of people's lives are given fair and equitable treatment. However, the application of social justice in Islamic political thought faces various challenges, especially in the current era due to globalization, social transformation, and technological advancements. However, Islamic societies can face these challenges and continue to work towards realizing true social justice by understanding and applying the basic principles of social justice in Islam.
