According to the United Nations Happiness Report, Finland has been the world happiest country for 7 years in a row.

The findings are powered by data from the Gallup World Poll and analyzed by some of the world's leading well being scientists.

The current population of Finland is 5,625,011, or 0.07% of the total world population which now reaches to more than 8 billion.

Finland total land area in 2024 is 303, 890 square kilometers. 86,4% of the population is urban. The density is 18 people per square kilometer.

Finland officially became a country on December 6, 1917. For centuries, Finland had been part of Sweden and then Russia from 1809 to 1917.

Some significant factors used to measure the level of happiness in the poll include:

  • Trust and freedom. The Finns tend to trust their fellow neighbors, public officials, and their government. Freedom from corruption is one of the main reasons to ensure trust of the citizen to their public officials and government.
  • Proximity to nature. The Finns include nature as part of their recreation and relaxation.
  • Social safety net that benefits the whole society in various programs.
  • Gender equality. Finland is the first country in the world to give women the right to vote and run in parliamentary election in 1906.
  • Free education, universal health care, and family friendly policies. Finland educational system is one of the top 10 in the world.
  • Healthy work life balance.

Finland is the 1st on the rank, it is the happiest country in the world. While Indonesia, as for this year, 2024, is at the 80th out of 134 countries in the world, with its point on 5.568. Surprise? Not really since the country such as Indonesia has been suffering that much particularly related to corruption. The higher the level of corruption in a country for sure can only damage the population, as the result, people become unhappier.

According to TRANSPARANCY INTERNATIONAL based in Germany, as for 2023, the score of Indonesia in CORRUPTION PERCEPTION INDEX is 34. Meaning, Indonesia is categorized as a corrupted nation. The score is scaled between 0, meaning :"highly corrupt", to 100, meaning: very clean.

Indonesia, out of 180 (one hundred and eighty) countries in the world, is ranked 115th in the INDEX. Meaning, the 1st on the rank is the cleanest country.  Indonesia as mentioned, is at the 115th in term of cleanliness related to corruption.

The level of trust becomes low when corruption is rampant. In this situation, the population tend to have high level of stress.

Only 59% of Indonesian population live in urban areas, 41% are in rural, meaning, their proximity to Nature is closed. Indonesia also has one of the most beautiful natural landscapes in the world, but for sure, it is not enough to make them happy. No matter how much they spend time in nature to relax and recreate, if corruption is high, people are not happy.
