Various theories have been advanced for many years and several states claim that most people are motivated by the need for the fulfillment of psychological needs, while others claim that people are motivated to balance a variety of physical needs. While other theories focus on ways how people respond to various external stimuli, such as money, the value of school achievement, and many other achievements appreciation.

Researchers are studying motivation in wide range of topics, including the topics of hunger and obesity, sexual desire, the effects of reward and punishment, and a variety of needs of power, achievement, social acceptance, love, and self-esteem.
