Baru-baru ini, sebuah organisasi dan jaringan jurnalis internasional, Ijnet melalui situsnya memasukkan nama Kompasiana dalam jajaran tujuh media warga yang berhasil dan menjadi contoh dalam pengembangan jurnalisme warga dengan merangkul komunitas (warga).

Bersama dengan enam media warga lainnya seperti California Watch, CGNet Swara, The New York Times' Interactive Commenting, Tracking cicadas, ProPublica’s ‘Get Involved’, Storyful and the social web, Kompasiana dikatakan sebagai media inisiatif terbesar di Indonesia yang memiliki ratusan ribu kontributor (Kompasianer) dan menayangkan sekitar 800 artikel per hari, baik berupa laporan, opini atau bahkan karya fiksi.
