A: Have you ever been to the famous prison-island Alcatraz in US?

B: Yes... in a movie. Haha... just joking. It was a prison island until 1963. Now, it's a tourist attraction.

A: I heard it was a military base, headquarter, or something like that back then?

B: To be precise, a military fortification and military prison. There's a lighthouse to help ship activities nearby.

A: When was it converted into a federal prison? Is it true that prisoners can't escape the place easily?

B: It was converted into federal prison in 1934. The strong currents around the island and the cold water made it hard to escape.

A: On what movies did you ever see Alcatraz? Maybe Escape From Alcatraz (1979) was the most famous one.

B: Resident Evil Death Island (2023), The Book of Eli (2010), The Rock (1996), The Enforcer (1976), and the one you just mentioned.

A: As a tourist attraction, how many visitors have been there according to a report?

B: According to 2018 report, it drew some 1,7 millions visitors annually. During covid-19 pandemic, it was closed.
