INTRODUCTION

Today, I will review a journal entitled "Social Work Informatics: A New Specialty" by Debra Parker-Oliber and George Demiris. This journal was published in April 2006 at Social Work Volume 51, Number 2. This journal discusses the use of technology in work practices that have increased significantly but for some experts in other disciplines still doubt the existence of technology in science that is considered to prioritize practice. the author then proposes informatics as a new specialty to help overcome existing doubts.

SUMMARY

Advocates of technology use identify technology as providing access to improved social work services, lower costs, increased coordination of services, and privacy for individuals. Critics, on the other hand, have expressed skepticism about technology, viewing it as a barrier to interaction and operation. Social workers view technology as distancing workers from the people they are trying to serve and have traditionally resisted technological interventions. In an effort to address these skepticisms from social workers, the authors propose to integrate informatics into the profession. Although it has been a long process, technology is now recognized as a life-supporting tool. Social workers who are technologically literate are needed to manage the tools and protect clients from abuse. In nursing, technology is not seen as the focus of practice, but as a tool. They bridge the gap between what technology can do and what should be done in practice. They have also developed guidelines for using technology in practice. Much research has been done to identify different levels of competency and roles for informatics in nursing.

In fact, the core of social work practice is the issue of social justice, so the digital and distributed nature of new technologies raises questions for the social profession. With the adoption of technology, social workers are required to learn these new skills. Although IT is increasingly popular, many workers have not received computer training. This is seen by informatics experts as a means of innovating access to social services. Schools and universities are also needed to provide a training ground for an integrated information era curriculum.

EVALUATION

The arguments in this journal are wrapped by the author in easy-to-understand language. All existing problems are also written with the solutions offered. Because the object of discussion is the wider community, the language is also written in a friendly language so that even lay people who read this journal will feel understood and comprehended.

CRITICAL ANALYSIS

I strongly agree with the argument of this journal, it is true that along with the development of technology, human resources are needed who also understand technology. understanding must also be realized through implementation. this implementation can be realized in various fields of discipline including social. technology is here to make human life easier, not to complicate it.

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, the technology that is present in today's era must be able to be modified so that its presence can help various groups of people including with various jobs. Humans can modify the technology themselves so that it becomes useful and in accordance with the line of every life. Technology experts are also very much needed to be able to teach and disseminate the use of technology to people who do not understand. Technology must also be taught from an early age so that society will not be left behind by its development.
