Indonesia is taking a major step in the development of its tourism industry, with a focus on targeting the MICE sector. The government's “New Bali” Project targets five priority destinations, which are expected to improve Indonesia's position in global business.

The five areas declared by the government for development are Lake toba, Borobudur, Mandalika, Labuan Bajo, and Likupang. Each desitination offers a unique attraction for the MICE sector. Stretching from the enchanting scenery of Lake toba to the beauty of the landscape and the diversity of marine life from Labuan Bajo, these five destinations are prepared to offer a world-class super premium destination while showing the sparkling beauty of the diversity of Indonesia's natural beauty.

“This is also a direct instruction from the president, if you want to build it, you must focus. Find 5 that have the potential to become the ‘new Bali’. If these 5 destinations have been prepared this year, next year we will expand. Make sure everything has world-class quality, "said Sandiaga Uno.

The government also continues to prepare this project with investments in infrastructure funding. New airports are under construction or upgrades in some locations, while improvements in the quality of road connections are also being made to facilitate accessibility. A support accommodation network was also prepared.

However, the journey of the Indonesian nation to become a global MICE Power finds a challenge. Environmental and agrarian issues are one of the main issues in the development of

five priority destinations, specifically on ecological aspects and community welfare. Like Labuan Bajo which is the entrance to the Komodo National Park area.

Another problem is the need for skilled labor. The government has initiated a training program in ollaboration with various parties to create a workforce that has the capabilities of MICE international standards.

The economic potential of this program is very significant. According to data from the Central Bureau of Statistics, the expenditure of tourists visiting Labuan Bajo is increasing every year. In 2019, the average expenditure from foreign tourists touched the figure of $93.35 USD per individual. In 2021 that number rose to $2,592 USD per person.

The five priority destinations being developed by the government are expected to complement rather than compete with other destinations, this will increase interest in the global MICE market. With the sustainability of investment and good management planning,” new bali " will become a destination that is gaining attention in the event business world.
