Rambu Solok Ceremony

A religion originating from South Sulawesi to be precise Toraja. Aluk Todolo is the original religion of the Toraja tribe. This religion, as recorded in the Bible and Tongkonan by Theodorus Kobong: Incarnation, Contextualization, Transformation (2008: 121) as "the religion of the ancestors or the way of life or the rules of life of the ancestors." However, because this belief does not get a place as the official religion in Indonesia, Aluk Todolo is included or recognized as a Balinese Hindu sect or Hindu Dharma Alok Todolo. This faith is also called Hindu Alukta, although it does not have close ties with Hindu gods such as Brahma, Shiva, or Vishnu.

This faith has 3 main points in its theory, which is:
1. Puang Matua is the creator of all the contents of the earth
2. Deata which has a large number is the keeper of all of Puang Matua's creations.
3. Tomembali Puang/todolo is the supervisor who shows his gestures and blessings to his human descendants

These 3 points explain that they believe that humans who are still alive will not be separated from the supervision of their ancestral spirits called Tomembali Puang/Todolo. In other words, the spirits of someone who has died still have a relationship or will never leave his family. They also believe if they do not give blessings, their ancestors can become angry and can lead to disaster, because of that the harmony must be maintained.

In the Aluk Todolo religion, there is a unique ceremony that has always been preserved. This event is a funeral ceremony or often called "Rambu Solok" which is said to be the most expensive death ceremony. The Toraja tribe is willing to pay hundreds of millions to billions for performing this ceremony. They believe that when someone has died and has not been given a ceremony Rambu Solok will be considered sick and treated like a living person who is given food and drink and several times spoke to. This person will be buried on a rock or cliff when the Rambu Solok ceremony is already organized which requires sacrifices in the form of buffalo and pigs as much as possible. This happens because they believe in a concept about the provision in the spirit realm. The functions of sacrificial animals at the Rambu Solok ceremony for the Toraja tribe are:

1. As a determination of the position of the soul of a person who has died, because it is believed that a person who is born into the world and when he dies does not bring provisions from the world, his spirit will not be accepted by Puang Matua (God).
2. Things that determine the dignity of their offspring in society who still have a social status by their caste.
3. The standard in dividing the inheritance of the person who died.

In addition, at times such as after a successful harvest or a favorable condition, a ceremony will be held to commemorate them as a thanksgiving to their ancestors.
