Leaders are a key element in the success of an institution. An organization or institution, whether in education, business, or government, needs leaders who are able to provide direction, inspiration, and guidance to its members. Leaders are not only responsible for achieving organizational goals, but also for building a positive culture, improving individual performance, and creating productive relationships between team members.

According to Morgan (1996:156), the role of a leader can be seen from a metaphorical perspective that describes the organization as a "brain". In this view, the leader acts as a center of thought that must ensure that all parts of the institution can work synergistically to achieve common goals. Morgan explains that leaders act as managers of information and knowledge, who are able to encourage data-based decision-making processes, as well as develop innovative mindsets across all levels of the organization.

Morgan also emphasized that a leader must be able to create an environment that supports continuous learning, where members of the organization are encouraged to think critically, innovate, and make continuous improvements. Leaders not only act as the brain that controls every action, but also as facilitators who allow their members to develop and contribute optimally.

The Role of Leaders in Institutions

Leaders play a vital role in various aspects of an organization, including strategy, change management, and employee motivation. Without effective leadership, an institution may suffer losses, stagnate, or even collapse due to its inability to adapt to changes in the external environment.

Some important leaders in the institution include:

1. Driving the Organization's Vision and Mission Leaders are responsible for communicating the vision and mission to all members of the institution. They inspire and motivate members to work towards achieving the vision with full dedication towards.

2. Decision Makers

Leaders play a key role in strategic decision making. They must be able to analyze information, weigh risks, and choose the best course of action for the advancement of the institution.

3. Human Resource Management

Leaders also play a role in managing human resources, from recruitment, training, development, to performance evaluation. A good leader is able to recognize the potential of each individual and utilize it for the benefit of the institution.
