"Racism"

ANTHONY HENDRA*TUESDAY, JANUARY 2, 2018

So many people talk about it, few understands it. Even less comprehends.

We often hear social chats like ; Chinese are stingy, Javanese are old fashioned or Bataks are bold. These are not racist talks. It’s merely Characterization and Habitual categories.

But when an individual expresses hatred towards one single race, several race and even his or her own race, now that is Racism.

And a most times it’s very difficult how a person or a group can possibly becomes racist, since  most problems we normally encounter is either habits, principles of ‘other people’ or materials as in economics. There’s hardly any matters that truly single out towards race differentiation whatsoever. Other people means ‘Other’, different from you of course. They have their own family upbringing, customs and traditions.

This applies very much to the Context of Race Tolerance - can you tolerate? Honestly speaking, we can hardly even tolerate some of our own family members; Dad smokes, mom yells, brother noisy and sister fussy.

Imagine how boring would this world be if everyone looks, talks and acts the same way as you do. If you weren’t psychotic you’d hate it yourself.

If normal people were to get upset by categories i think we ought to be more furious by our Blood types since that is the origin of the Human Species itself. How would you feel if people were to call you A, AB, B or O? Perhaps in the distant future we would be truly insulted then.

But before that, we should learn to accept our shapes that are mostly excess from our blood types and genes.

If an individual should find him/herself in a state where he/she dislike a certain person’s habits, characters, talks or actions and judge by race type, then i’d suggest he/she thinks over their judgment. As habits are habits, characters are characters and talks are mere talks, etc.
