Chicken Egg Prices Reach Over Rp30.000, Some Household In Jakarta Stop Eggs Consumption

Jakarta-The Price of Chicken eggs in Jakarta Reached over Rp30.000 per kilogram on 1st June 2022. While usually, in the traditional market, the price would be around Rp24.000-Rp26.000 per kilogram. 

Many people have complained about the increased cost of chicken eggs on the market, which caused a decrease in egg consumption in some households.

Hartini, one of the housewives who lived in Jakarta, said, "I usually bought eggs 2 kg per week, but because the price is going up, I could only buy 1 kg." Hartini chose to reduce egg consumption to the soaring price of chicken eggs.

While Sagala and Andin -another housewife- choose to stop consuming eggs for a while. Sagala said, "I stopped restocking eggs in my house. We choose to stop consuming eggs for a while because the price is just too high." Andin also said the same statement "Yes, I also stopped buying eggs for my home. I choose to buy another way to fulfill protein in my home." Andin said. 

They also said they had no choice but to stop eating eggs, for the time being, starting with the rise in egg prices at the end of May till now. Then they said that they would buy eggs if the price dropped. The current price increase does not only affect the chicken egg commodities. However, other commodities have also experienced price increases simultaneously, such as chili prices.
