Communication is Classic Human activity. Communication between human is very important because with communication human can have a good connection to others. In another mean Communication is an information that should be deliver or presented from a place/platform to other place/platform and Communication is a process of deliver or present an information or a message from sender to receiver through a channel. Jessada Salathomg, Ph.D from Faculty of Communication Arts, Chulalongkorn University explain, that the process of communication has been change. The first system is from a Sender – message – channel – receiver (Receiver being the last of the system) and it has been changed to new system to a Sender – message – channel – receiver – Sender (after the change of the system). Mr. Jessada Salathong explain, that in this era because of the change of the communication process the receiver not only passive receiver anymore but they can be a sender as well, Mr. Jessada Salathong named this system as Equal System.

The Reason it can be happened because of disruption or media disruption. There are technologies that replace conventional technologies. For example, in the past before the digital era Journalists if they want take a photo or video, they need a videographer or photographer. But right now, in digital era it is easier for example, right now we have a smartphone, inside of the smartphone consist of camera, video, even live stream through a social media, it doesn’t need a videographer or photographer (All in one). This is one of example of media disruption. Another example such as in PBS Thailand (Thai Public Broadcasting Service) There are no Cameraman they use a robot to replace a cameraman. Hence, there is only presenter and the robot. In China they don’t need news anchor anymore, all controlled by robot and this is a media disruption and it changes our lifestyle, changes our way that we consume the media and it changes our career as well it affects us a lot, another phenomenon that happened this is what we call Media Convergence, when everything like print, audio, video, photo and so on converges into one platform. Explained Mr. Jessada Salathong.

Mr. Jessada Salathong said, in this digital era right now, anyone can be a media producer, anyone can act like reporter. User or receiver can create a content by themselves this is call UGC (User Generated Content). For example, there is famous TikTok content “Salam dari Binjai” that famous lately, that content influence people to do the same thing in Indonesia. Or another example of UGC is there are a lot people who create a Meme, the people can create meme using video clips, picture or take public figure video and create their own content by themselves. And it can be Influence people.

Tiktokers, Youtubers, and anyone who has million of followers have more impact on people. And then followed by opinion leader, such as in a situation right now Covid-19 Doctor, Scientist and Researchers even they don’t have a million of followers they can influence and give an impact to people. Another thing that very Important for our media is Storytelling Technique, Storytelling skill it is still Important that we should have. Because through the good storytelling technique we can influence people easier, for example storytelling through a series or movie it can be influence people. and if we want our storytelling exist and known by world, we should be a global citizen and join in what global citizen issues bring such as gender equality, Black Live Matters, Stop Asian Hate, Racism, Climate Changes and so on.

Mr. Jessada Salathong also mentioned 5 Media Literacy Questions are:

Who Created The message?

How was the message presented?

How does the audience receive the message?

Who’s represented the message and who’s missing?

What is motivation of the message?

In other hand, Mr. Jessada Salathong explained about Information disorder, Mr. Jessada Salathong explain that Information Disorder divided in 3 form, the first one is Miss information that is mean the content is fake and false content but not harmful or hurt anyone and misleading content. The second one is Malinformation, where the information is leaks contain of hate speech and harassment, and the third one is Disinformation the content is false content and already manipulated. To avoid fake news or hoax Mr. Jessada Salathong told the audience about the International Fact-Checking Day on Second April.
