Strained Relations: The Complex Dynamics of Rohingya Refugees and Acehnese Locals

Due to the violence experienced by the Rohingyas in Myanmar, they fled to various countries, including Indonesia. The Rohingyas have made Indonesia, more precisely Aceh, their main destination. However, recently the people of Aceh have increasingly rejected the arrival of the Rohingyas to their land. 

The locals even dismantled the tents that sheltered the Rohingya refugees. It was not without reason that they did this. It is said that the Rohingya refugees are increasingly troubling the people of Aceh and behaving badly. The arrival of the Rohingya refugees was welcomed by the people of Aceh. Local residents provided assistance in the form of food and drinks to the rohingya refugees. However, like ungrateful people, they threw them into the sea. 

The rohingya refugees also often try to escape from the refugee camp. Information from the local police states that their escape is often facilitated by people who rent vehicles. It is even said that some of the Rohingya immigrants taking refuge in Aceh are those who fled from refugee camps in Bangladesh. And the main trigger for Acehnese people to reject Rohingya refugees is because they do not want to comply with the norms and customs that exist there. Many of them do not maintain cleanliness, behave badly, and do not heed Islamic law and the rules that exist in Aceh. These are some of the reasons why Rohingya refugees were rejected by the people of Aceh.
